Annual Online Conference, 28-30 August
Gender and Politics / the Political
Given the current state of crises around the world, this year’s En-Gender Conference will focus on the relationship between gender and the politics / the political. We argue that an intersectional lens needs to be at the basis of our understanding of power and violence. We also stress that En-Gender remains a place that aims at fostering a community of researchers and providing a safe/brave space for everyone.
This year, we plan on having three shorter days divided into
a) Roundtable discussions
This section will have short (5 minute) presentations that should be designed to lay the basis of community discussions. The presentations can be based on research as well as more general ideas and questions. This section specifically aims at engaging also undergraduate and graduate students as well as scholars from all stages who want to share work and ideas that are still in the making. In addition to presentations, we are also looking for respondents and chairs for the roundtable discussions.
b) Paper presentations
The presentations in the section should be based on individual or collaborative research, have a length of 15-20 minutes and will be structured in thematically fitting panels.
c) Academic exchange and reflection of academic activism / role as researchers
We will have two group sessions this year. One will be focussing on networking, the other on thinking about our role as researchers within this global state of crises. For this, we will have a workshop conducted by Professor Kiran Grewal (Goldsmiths, University of London).
We invite short and long presentations on the following topics, but not limited to:
Gender/sexuality and
- The nation-state
- Colonialism and the simultaneity of different forms of colonialisms
- Intersectional approaches from global and local perspectives
- Normativity and transgression
- Systemic and institutionalised violence
