These words have more than a year but are as alive in me and mine as they were then/Estas palabras tienen más de un año y sin embargo la lucha y la de los míos sigue tan viva como entonces.
They express the feeling of a migrant person who cannot directly fight for the space that gave me opportunities and where I am now in the world. They came to be when the current government continued their attack on public education in every stage, particularly with Universities, but also tertiary and other third instance education spaces. There is a long and arduous history of the fight to maintain free education as this level and even more work on demonstrating the general social and global merits of what University graduates that get educated in these spaces achieve. There are things to change and improve, I am not ignorant to that, but as I say below that means to take the opposite approach to what is happening right now.
It is in Spanish because I believe it expresses best what it means to me both to have emerged from those spaces and to be away from them. As I say below, I am away because of what the public University gave me.
I have decided to have it published in Spanish because of what can be lost in translation (because of my own shortcomings). Por la Universidad publica
Hay muchas palabras escritas que son preciosas. Que son alentadoras, emotivas, que te hacen viajar.
Mis palabras no llegan a esos niveles, tampoco espero que lo hagan. Estas palabras están para sumar, para hacer números, para hacer bulto.
Estas palabras me encuentran lejos de la Universidad que me vio estudiar. Pero estoy lejos gracias a esa Universidad pública, para todes y de calidad. Estoy lejos por el nivel educativo de la Universidad pública.
Estoy lejos.
Pero los pasillos de charlas, de barullo, de multitud, de risas, de preocupaciones están conmigo. Están conmigo mientras camino por otros pasillos, distintos, silenciosos, de paso.
Las aulas llenas de contenido, de charlas, de idas y vueltas, de desvaríos varios me acompañan siempre. Me acompañan ahora que estoy del otro lado y es innovador impulsar ese ida y vuelta, esa seriedad de-seriada.
La gente me acompaña siempre. Porque quienes se quedaron conmigo, siempre están conmigo, no importa la distancia, ni la hora. La Universidad me dio amigues del corazón y para siempre, que son ejemplos a seguir.
La Universidad pública gratuita, para todes y de calidad tiene cosas a mejorar, por supuesto. Pero eso implica más inversiones y más espacios.
Nunca menos, nunca menos gente, nunca menos diversidad, nunca alejada.
¿Porque estas palabras por escrito? Porque sabemos que es el modo de conocimiento legitimado, porque sabemos que, si no está por escrito, se busca olvidar. Porque este llamado nacional tiene ecos, porque implica conocimientos críticos, pensamientos críticos, anti patriarcales, antirracistas, anticolonialistas.
Queda por escrito, pero no legitimando la producción de conocimiento que esconde. Queda por escrito para avanzar otras formas de conocimiento. Queda por escrito porque si no se pone en disputa su existencia, como el genocidio palestino.
La Universidad pública gratuita, para todes, de calidad y critica siempre conmigo.
Y yo siempre con la Universidad pública gratuita, para todes, de calidad, critica y con su gente.
